Nearest airport is situated in Madurai, Tamilnadu at a distance of 185km from Megamalai. Meghamalai can be reached via Dindugal, Theni, and Chinnamanur. The other option is through Madurai, Theni and Chinnamannur.

A tourist can reach Megamalai by two different routes, either from Theni or from Andipatti. The first said route touches Chinnamanur and the second through Kandamanayakkanur. Both of these stations are easily accessible from Theni, Dindigul or Madurai by road and the distance is about 130 kilometers. The Chinnamanur road is comparatively far better for its scenic splendor and soothing spots that bring in more lush greenery.

Advance reservations need to be done along with prior permission that has to be obtained as only panchayath guest houses and forest lodges are present at the hill top. Without prior permission the tourist cannot have accommodation. An overnight stay if on plan can be arranged and room reservation can be made at the forest check post that is located three kilometers from Chinnamannur on the way to Meghamalai. The traveler must reach the check post before 5 pm to get the booking done. Day travelers can avail of moderately priced lodgings either at Andipatti, Chinnamanur or Theni.

The ideal time to visit Megamalai

The appropriate time to visit Megamalai is after the monsoons cease between October and March. After the rains the weather is pleasant and the traveler can make the most of the season.
